Ahuna festival celebrated at Naga United Village
DIMAPUR — The Sümi community of Naga United Village, Chümoukedima, celebrated the Ahuna festival at the church compound on November 14.
Mughaho Kiho, music director, delivered a speech on the occasion and stated that during the forefathers’ time, the Ahuna festival used to be celebrated during the month of November on different days depending on when the harvest was completely collected and stored, according to a press release.
However, he explained that the current generation decided to celebrate the festival together on November 14 every year and noted that ‘Ahuna Balu’ (newly harvested rice cooked in bamboo stem) is the first piece of meal after the harvest.
The release mentioned that during the celebration, the women folk performed Thishele (women folk song), the men group performed Lejole (men folk song), and Vinoto Zhimo performed the special song.
