IMPHAL: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai arrived in Imphal on a 5-day visit to Manipur to take stock of the situation.
Rai called on the Chief Minister N Biren Singh at the latter’s secretariat and discussed the present situation of the state.
Later, the Union minister addressing a press conference at CM’s durbar hall in Imphal informed that Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be arriving in the state on a 3-day visit from May 29 till June 1.
On the prevailing situation of the state, he stated that violence has always been a hurdle to development and does not bring good in any form.
Justice will be delivered as per the law of the land, keeping in view the interest of the people of the state, he said, adding that he would visit the periphery of the state.
Meanwhile, a delegation of the Congress party including its five MLAs in Manipur will be going to Delhi on Friday (May 26) to seek the President of India’s intervention in resolving the on-going crisis in Manipur.
President of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC-I) K Meghachandra informed this while addressing a press conference in Imphal on Thursday.
Former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh who is the congress legislature party (CLP) leader, senior Congress MLAs K Ranjit, Th Lokeshwar and O Surjakumar and other MPCC leaders were also present during the press conference.
Responding to questions, Singh said they will request AICC chief Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi to accompany them in submitting the memorandum to the President of India.
‘At the same time, if we have the privilege to meet the prime minister, not only others, we’ll definitely try to convince,’ he said.
Meanwhile, Communist Party of India national executive member Dr. M Nara Singh, while speaking to the media, demanded a political solution to the crisis by taking all opinions of people into confidence and restoring normalcy and peace in Manipur.
