Facebook is most used online social network worldwide
India tops with 314.6 million active Facebook users
KOHIMA — With roughly 2.98 billion monthly active users as of the first quarter of 2023, Facebook is the most used online social network worldwide from the third quarter of 2008 to the first quarter of 2023
According to Statista, the report was prepared in collaboration with Meta Platforms and released in April 2023.
The supplementary notes of the report stated that the whooping figures do not include Instagram or WhatsApp users unless they would otherwise qualify as such users, respectively, based on their other activities on Facebook.
It is pertinent to know that Meta Platforms owns four of the biggest social media platforms – Facebook (core platform), WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and Instagram – all with over one billion monthly active users each.
Facebook crossed two billion active users in the second quarter of 2017, taking just over 13 years to reach this milestone. In comparison, Meta-owned Instagram took 11.2 years, and Google’s YouTube took just over 14 years to achieve the same landmark.
It also noted that in January 2021, Facebook was the platform on which users in the US spent the most time in a day with an average of 33 minutes spent on Facebook, followed by TikTok with 32 minutes and Twitter with 31 minutes daily.
The outbreak of COVID-19 outbreak in 2020 is accredited to have increased users of all major social media platforms on daily usage, which then decreased in 2021.
Furthermore, Facebook’s parent company Meta has a grand total of 3.59 billion core product users in the final quarter of 2021 and in the same year the company’s revenue registered 117 billion US dollars (INR 9,562,380,750), up from around 86 billion US dollars in the previous financial year.

As of January 2023, it was reported that men between the ages of 25- 34 years made up Facebook’s largest audience, accounting for 17.6 percent of global users.
Meanwhile the second largest audience base could be found with men aged 18 to 24 years.
