In order to control various traffic violations in the state, Nagaland Police has launched special drive since February 1 and to inculcate traffic discipline and to reduce accidents, rash and negligent driving and control various offences under the Motor Vehicle Act, it has informed to intensify and continue those actions.

Nagaland Police has expressed concern on vehicles plying in the state without proper vehicular registration/ no registration number, vehicles with AF (applied for) as mentioned, government vehicles were purchased in the auction and yet the registration of the vehicle has not been changed, and government vehicles being used by retired government officers.

A police report issued by the superintendent of police (SCRB) and PRO of PHQ informed that as per the provisions of the MV Act, the vehicles have to be registered in the name of the new owner within a stipulated time period. It informed that any violation would result in legal action as per the provisions of the MV Act.

It, therefore, cautioned that such vehicles, if found plying on the roads, would be subject to immediate confiscation and further legal action.

It stated that the possibility of such government vehicles being misused for illegal activities during the upcoming election to the state legislative assembly cannot be ruled out.

In view of the above, the owners of the vehicles are informed to contact the nearest SP’s office along with the relevant documents for having applied for registration and give an undertaking that the vehicle would not be used for any illegal activities which violates the model code of conduct.

The retired officers using government vehicles are requested to return the vehicle to the concerned department or not to use the same till the completion of the election process.
