Hornbill Festival night carnival: Price of items to be kept ‘in check’

Kohima, Nov. 27 (EMN): The Kohima Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KCCI) will be organising the annual Hornbill Night Carnival in the main town of the state capital from December 1 to the 10th.

The announcement was made by the KCCI team during a press conference at a hotel on Sunday evening in Kohima.

Kezhazer Angami, president of KCCI, informed that the night carnival that has become a “major attraction and an integral part of the Hornbill Festival” will begin from 4 pm to 9 pm every evening at Y-junction, Old MLA Hostel to Razhü Point in the main town.

It was informed that a fee of INR 3,000 is being collected for regular tables (two tables), INR 6,000 for semi-premium (four tables) and INR 10,000 for premium (six tables) to run a stall at the festival.

The collection will be used for managing the night carnival and upkeep of the town, it was informed.

 Azai Kerhuo, women coordinator and co-convenor of the night carnival, affirmed that they will keep the prices of different items in check during the night carnival in line with that of regular business.

She also informed that there will be awards for most innovative stall, cleanliness stall, best decorated building, lucky draw and mobile photography.

She apprised that live music and concerts will also be part of the 10-day night carnival.

During the night carnival, KCCI informed that as per the notification from Kohima Municipal Council (KMC), they will prohibit items such as the usage of plastics spoons, plates, etc and other non-degradable items.

Tolto Vizol, vice president, administration, KCCI and convenor of Hornbill Night Carnival management committee, informed that like the previous years, there will be regular stalls with different types of items ranging from food, handloom, decorative items etc.

He informed that they are giving preference to local entrepreneurs to outsource and display their items to generate income, adding that this year, they would be setting up 130 stalls for the vendors in the streets.

As per the direction from the district administration, Angami informed that entry of vehicles would be restricted at the site of the night carnival. However, the passage for vehicular movement will be allowed through Khuochiezie local ground during the course of the fete between 4-9 pm.

He also informed that a joint meeting was held with the district administration earlier wherein they have decided to conduct social work at the town premises on November 30.

He informed that all shops in the town jurisdiction will be closed during the social work between 6 and 9 am as the shopkeepers are required to clean, beautify and decorate their establishments and premises.

Angami apprised that they have also requested panchayats to conduct the cleanliness activities in their colonies within the municipal areas to welcome the festival season.

It was informed that KCCI will be pitching in youth volunteers to man the venue within the parameters of the night carnival.

Welcoming locals and tourists to revel through the streets of the night carnival, he acknowledged the district administration, police, KMC, Association of Kohima Municipal Wards Panchayat among others who will be coordinating with them during the festival.
