36th National Games: Manipur’s lawn bowl men’s pairs defeat Gujarat, lose to WB

Imphal, Sep. 28(EMN): Manipur’s lawn bowl men’s pairs defeated Gujarat 21-11 and lost to West Bengal 11-30 in their maiden competition at the 36th National Games 2022 at the Kensville Golf and Country Club, Ahmedabad in Gujarat on Wednesday.
At the same time, Manipur’s women’s singles defeated host Gujarat 21-6, but lost to Assam 3-33. Men’s singles lost to West Bengal 12-17.Surprisingly, women’s singles also lost to West Bengal 9-21.
“Our positions will be known only after tomorrow’s competition. It also depends on the defeat or win of Assam in tomorrow’s events,” Manipur team manager Dr. Moirangthem Manimohan said.
Altogether eight teams namely Assam, West Bengal, Gujarat, Manipur, Orissa, Delhi, Jharkhand and Bihar are taking part in the lawn bowl competition at the ongoing National Games.
It may be mentioned that a 12-member playing team of Manipur along with officials are participating in the event. The formal opening event of the nation’s biggest sports extravaganza will be held tomorrow (September 29).
With more than 400 athletes, coaches and officials, Manipur is participating in the 36th National Games in Gujarat beginning from September 29 to October 12, 2022. In the last 35th National Games held in Kerala in 2015, Manipur secured the 7th position with a total haul of 69 medals including 22 gold medals.
