Dimapur, Sep. 27 (EMN): A three-day 24th general conference of All Zeliangrong Students’ Union (AMN) got underway in Beisumpuikam village under Peren district on September 26 on the theme ‘Zeliangrong-then and now.’

Speaking on the second day as the special guest, former Nagaland chief minister and chairman of UDA government, TR Zeliang, impressed upon that the seeds of unity and self-determination sown by brave leaders like Haipou Jadonang should be respected, honoured and spread across the length and breadth of Zeliangrong inhabited land. Asserting that a tribe without its history can be termed as a lost tribe, he encouraged the student community to understand the significance of preserving their history, stated a DIPR report.

Zeliang stated that student leaders have a huge role to play in building and uplifting the society, adding the responsibility bestowed upon them to see the welfare of the student community should ever remain deeply rooted and not astray from that goal.

He urged the young boys and girls, who are still pursuing studies in various institutions, to be sincere in their studies and aim to excel stating that only those who excel would achieve something in life.

While further pointing out that employment in the government sector has become saturated, he stated that it should be the lookout of every individual to explore other avenues for sustenance.

The introductory session began with the deputy commissioner of Peren, Vineet Kumar, who spoke on how to cope up with clan disputes and urged to maintain the spirit of oneness and unity among the Zeliangrong community in order to move forward.

Exhortation were delivered by the president of Zeliangrong Mothers’ Organisation (ZMO-N) and advisor of ZB (AMN), while the presidential address was delivered by AZSU (AMN) president, Henry Chawang, and the NSF president also shared the solidarity speech.

The 24th general conference would culminate on September 28 with the general secretary of Naga Hoho, K Elu Ndang, as the guest of honour.

Report further stated that more than thousand delegates from different federating units of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland are attending the conference.
