Bumblebee Inclusive School kids visit PHQ for real-time learning

Kohima, Sep. 12 (EMN): Students of Bumblebee Inclusive School, Kohima, were able to experience real-time learning — if not, a glimpse of being a police officer — after visiting and interacting with the uniformed personnel at Nagaland Police Headquarters in Kohima on Monday.

One of the reasons why Kopele V Tepa, special educator and headmistress of Bumblebee Inclusive School, chose PHQ as the ‘exposure field’ was because whenever students were asked about their aim in life, ‘most of them would reply that they want to become a police officer’, she said.

‘The exposure is the first of its kind. It is not only about taking the children outside but allowing them to interact with police personnel and experience learning on a real-time basis as learning is limited to the four walls of classrooms most of the time’, she stated.

“As the name of the school implies, it is inclusive in nature, having students with disabilities. Therefore, it is important for them to see and have a visual experience. This is a small step to introducing society to persons with disabilities,” she added and expressed hope that the association would continue in the future.

ADGP Renchamo P Kikon also said the visit of such nature is the first of its kind for the PHQ. He shared that such exposures would not only help persons with disabilities to appreciate themselves but mainstream students will also be able to appreciate students with disabilities. He added that visuals and live interaction exposures would stay with them and will bridge the barriers.

During the questions and answer session, students raised queries to the police officers. Some of the questions included the difference between thieves, robbers and burglars, what inspired them to become a police officer, why they have guns, and how to become a police officer etc.

The police personnel demonstrated a guard of honour, a live demonstration of the dog squad, and an introduction to the responsibilities of DEF, NAP, IRB, traffic, and tourist police. ADGP also handed toffees and gifts to the students.
