Nagaland: Training on organic farming held

Dimapur, March 14 (EMN): A Skill Training of Rural Youth (STRY) on ‘Organic Farming’ was organised by Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Kohima district  in association with State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) and National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE)  at community hall, Khonoma from March 7 to the 12th.

An update informed that the training was conducted as a Sub-Mission on Agriculture Extension (SMAE) of National Mission on Agricultural Extension Technology (NMAET), ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, India.

It stated that Keviu Shüya, Dy. PD (ATMA), and Rokoshuno Angela, Dy. PD (ATMA), Kohima were the resource persons, who gave comprehensive and in-depth theoretical as well as practical demonstrations to the participants.

It added that the participants received radish, pea, French bean, HQPM-1 (maize) and carrot seeds along with certificates after the training.

Meanwhile, another update informed that SAMETI in association with MANAGE, Hyderabad also organised a STRY program on “Organic Farming” from March 7 to the 12th.

Director SAMETI and principal IETC, Dr. Watimongla Jamir in her keynote address spoke about the importance of implementing the correct farming techniques to obtain maximum output with minimum input.

She encouraged the participants to gain maximum technical and practical knowledge from the training programme and emulate the techniques in their own gardens and farms.

The participants were also taken on a field visit to bio-fertiliser laboratory, IETC Medziphema where they learned about seed treatment of maize, ginger and onion with Azotobacter and Phosphotika. Hands-on practical sessions on seedbed preparation and sowing of Yard beans, French beans, Bottle gourd and Maize were undertaken at IETC demonstration farm.           

During the valedictory programme, deputy project director, SAMETI, H Mhonthung Merry, gave the vote of thanks. The programme concluded with distribution of certificates, training handouts, seeds and bio-fertilisers to the 15 participants.
