Kohima, Oct. 4 (EMN): The Seithogei to Indira Gandhi Stadium (IG Stadium) bypass road, which is not pliable at the moment, can ease traffic congestion in Kohima town if completed, according to senior engineers.
An inspection led by MLA Khriehu Liezietsu along with CE (R&B) Addl. CE, SE, EE and other officers and engineers was conducted along the stretch of road on Monday.
Executive engineer of Road and Bridge (South Division) Vizoto Seletsu, said that the road, if completed fully, would ease traffic in Kohima town by at least 15%.
‘This can be done so by diverting vehicles which are headed to NH-2 or Wokha road without being made to enter Kohima town,’ he informed.
He also said the gradation and other technical aspects of the road ‘is good and certainly has a future’.
On the project, he said that it was taken up under the erstwhile SPA scheme but could not be brought to a satisfactory conclusion till today.
Chief Engineer (R&B) Kahuli Sema also observed that if the road is upgraded and properly maintained, it will help ease a lot of traffic congestion in the capital town.
Liezietsu, who was also at the site, suggested that the road be repaired and made pliable at the earliest. He added that he would discuss the matter with the higher authorities as it would not only ease traffic but also help in the expansion of the Kohima town.
Chairman of T Khel Kohima village, Thepfuvilie Souhu, said the road would be very useful and benefit everyone. He further assured that the T Khel Council would extend all co-operation if the development of the road is taken up.
