Nagaland receives medical equipment from Latvian govt., UNDP, UNICEF

Kohima, July 16 (EMN): The government of Latvia and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have donated 22 ventilators to Nagaland to help fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

The minister of Health and Family Welfare, S Pangnyu Phom, took to Twitter to express gratitude to Latvian government and UNDP for procuring the ventilators and delivering them to state on Friday.

“This will help us to prepare more effectively in our efforts to combat Covid-19 and beyond the pandemic,” the minister wrote.

The state Health department also conveyed gratitude to the government of Latvia and UNDP for ‘delivering 22 critical life-saving ventilators’.

The Embassy of Latvia to India and Sri Lanka replied: “We are glad to see that the necessary medical equipment has reached its destination (Nagaland)! Together we are stronger!”.

“Great and rewarding experience to co-operate with our friends and partners,” also wrote Ambassador of Latvia to India and Sri Lanka, Artis Bertulis.

It may be mentioned that Latvian government had allocate 60000 USD (approximately INR 44,76,270) for procurement of medical equipment produced in India, to help India fight the Covid-19 pandemic. It had also procured medical equipment to hospitals in Nagaland in collaboration with UNDP.

Meanwhile, Nagaland also received equipment for six PSA oxygen plants from the United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund (Unicef) to be installed in six districts — Longleng, Kiphire, Zunheboto, Wokha, Mon, and Peren.

On this, Advisor to Nagaland Chief Minister, Abu Metha tweeted: “The people of Nagaland will always remain grateful to Unicef and Unicef India for the generous assistance extended during the pandemic. Oxygen plants in six districts, 150 concentrators, 600 vaccine carriers and vaccine refrigerators are some of the assistance that had reached us.”

The Health Minister further updated that oxygen plant equipment from Unicef meant to be installed at District Hospital Longleng had reached the destination and would be installed in a fast-track manner.

He added that the state is in a position to provide enough oxygen to combat the health crisis.

The state’s Health department also expressed gratitude to Unicef for their continued support in the fight against the pandemic.
