Dimapur, June 14 (EMN): Aboi Area Students’ Union (AASU) on Monday urged the department of Health and Family Welfare to address the acute shortage of manpower at the Community Health Centre (CHC) Aboi.
AASU stated this during a prayer dedication and thanksgiving programme for a newly constructed front porch and flower garden at Community Health centre Aboi, according to an update.
The CHC was functioning with only two medical officers (dentist and GDMO), five staff nurses and one ANM.
“All the staff are performing their duty 24Xx7 a day without any rest as there is no chance of roster system. Mostly during this pandemic, we are in need of manpower to strengthen the healthcare sector and for smooth functioning of our Health Centre,” it read.
The Union has therefore asked the department to deploy sufficient manpower to handle the situation of positive cases “as there are death casualties already due to Covid-19 at Aboi town”.
The programme was held in presence of the HCMC (Health Centre Management Committee) Aboi with Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Chumlamo Humtsoe as chairman and leaders of civil society.
The front porch has been constructed as part of the community contribution by Aboi Town Baptist Church under the guidance of Rev. Yeangphong Konyak. The front flower garden has been initiated and maintained by the Aboi Town Baptist Church Youth department under the leadership of the youth director Youngtok, it said.
Dr. Neiphrezo Soriinuo appreciated all the churches, civil society and all the well-wishers of Aboi town for responding to the call for community participation to strengthen the health system. It said that Soriinuo shared that “government cannot always spoon feed its people but that each and every individual has an equally important role to play in bringing about change and progress in the society.” He also shared that the health centre has seen a huge overall improvement through the activities under NHP (Nagaland Health Project) and especially from the active participation of the community, support from local MLA and donations from the well-wishers.
It also stated that the medical staff of the health centre has been actively conducting social work, cleanliness drives and has also donated an item each as per their capabilities. Further, the doctor also lamented that there was shortage of manpower in terms of medical officers and nurses, for which appeals have been made to the Health department for timely intervention, it stated.
It said that the ADC also appreciated the churches and the community for their active contribution and ‘challenged them to extend their horizon’. In the function, the AASU lead by its president Mankhat Konyak gave away certificate of appreciation to the SMO in-charge Dr. Neiphrezo Soriinuo for his selfless service for the community and donated a sum of INR 10000 to CHC Aboi.
AASU also appreciated all the Aboi intellectuals, churches, ward organisations, and individuals for contributing toward CHC Aboi. The student body also appreciated the CHC staff for their dedication and selfless service despite shortage of manpower at CHC Aboi.
