Dimapur, March 3 (EMN): ICAR-National Research Centre on Mithun, Nagaland, and the Arunachal Mithun and Yak Conservation Mission have jointly conducted a technology awareness-cum-animal health camp and tribal sub-plan (TSP) input distribution at Dorpa village in Arunachal Pradesh on March 3.
An update from ICAR-NRC on Mithun stated that the camp began with vaccination to 58 mithuns against FMD, HS and BQ followed with best mithun competition basing on different categories.
It stated that scientists from ICAR-NRC on Mithun and state veterinary department officials were deputed to judge the animals basing on various morphological and behavioural characters.
The formal session began with an address by Dr. Taba Heli, AMYC mission director, wherein he highlighted the genesis of mithun farmers club. It added that Bameng Yayu, Zilla Parishad member from Kimin and guest of honour, has appreciated the efforts of ICAR-NRC on Mithun for having collaborated with the state department in their efforts to conserve and preserve mithun.
The chief guest and Zilla Parishad chairperson from Papum Pare, Chukhu Bablu, emphasised on the imperative to preserve the socio-cultural value of mithun in the tribal tradition considering its importance with their day to day lives.
It stated that Dr. Kezhavituo Vupru, chief technical officer from ICAR-NRC on Mithun, highlighted the purpose of conducting the programme and stressed on how over the years the institute through its tribal sub-plan has committed to uplift the mithun farmers by advocating them to adopt semi-intensive mithun rearing system as an alternative to the traditional rearing system.
It stated that barbed wires, CGI sheet, ear tags, ear applicator, bags, gumboots, raincoats and caps were distributed to the mithun farmers club as part of the institute’s initiative to popularise semi-intensive mithun farming.
The programme was attended by officials from various departments of the state, ADC and 258 farmers from various villages under Kimin circle.
