Dimapur District Hospital receives new public utility centre

Dimapur, Jan. 11 (EMN): A multi-utility public centre within District Hospital Dimapur premises, was inaugurated by Rev. L Kari Longchar on January 11.

The centre was build and donated by the Dimapur area Ao Baptist churches and civil societies co-ordination committee on Covid-19, as a token of reciprocation and tribute to everyone who had contributed towards the successful management of the quarantine centres.

It is a by-product of the committee’s initiative of managing three quarantine centres at Dimapur Government College from June 1 to June 20 last year.
During the occasion, convener of the committee, Supo Jamir said that on retrospection, 2020 was the ‘darkest year in the history of humankind where the entire world was crippled and paralysed due to the pandemic’.

Jamir said that initially they started the mission with the help of INR 3 lakh loan without interest from Aungba Sanglir and along the process, contributions and donations from well-wishers exceeded the budget they had made. Jamir also reminded that from June 1 to June 21, 2020, 245 returnees were accommodated at the Dimapur Government College quarantine centre and lauded the returnees’ contribution of INR 43, 361 for the management of the quarantine centres.

Jamir informed that the committee in consultation with the Ao community of Dimapur and with due approval and guidance from the Dimapur District Hospital authority decided to build and donate the centre using the contributions.

Jamir said that initially, INR 5 lakh was sanctioned for the construction of the centre, but the completion of the project was enhanced to double the amount. He also added that none of the returnees were diagnosed with Covid-19; while the 100 trees that they were planted by the returnees on World Environment Day in the premises of the quarantine centre, are growing well.

The medical superintendent of the District Hospital Dimapur, Dr. Keveduyi Theyo while receiving the the documents and keys to the facility, said that it wasn’t the first time the community had contributed towards the society and reminded of a shed that was constructed in the hospital premises by DABA, which is still in use.

They also assured that the centre would be properly maintained and added that a committee would be formed immediately to look after the maintenance of the facility under the leadership of blood bank in-charge of the hospital, Dr. Temsu.

The utility centre provides four toilets, two bathrooms, UV purified drinking water point, hand and face washing booths, mobile phone charging points and a spacious resting shed.
