Manipur to construct 10 more women’s markets

Imphal, Jan. 8 (EMN): Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh today informed that the state government had planned to construct 10 more women’s markets in the valley districts of which foundation stones of five such markets had been laid till date. 

Biren Singh stated that the state government had already constructed women’s markets in seven hill districts in pursuance to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision towards women empowerment and to protect and uphold the integrity of women.

The chief minister was speaking at the inauguration ITI at Sekmai besides laying foundation stones for two women’s market at Sekmai and Kanglatongbi, both located on the roadside of Manipur sector of the Imphal-Dimapur highway.

ITI was constructed under Enhancing Skill Development Infrastructure in North Eastern States, while the implementing agency for the construction of the two women’s market would be Manipur Police Housing Corporation Ltd.  

Rajya Sabha MP Maharaja Sanajaoba Leishemba, ministers Vungzagin Valte, O Lukhoi, Th Satyabrata, Assembly deputy speaker K Robindro and other officials were present during the function.

Recalling the responsibilities of women in Manipur since time immemorial to safeguard the state in various circumstances, Biren added that women could now contribute more towards the growth of the state’s economy with the considerable improvement of law and order situation in the state. He also sought support from the locals of Sekmai and Kanglatombi to enable construction of the markets within six months.

Informing that the situation of wildfire at Dzuko Valley has now been successfully controlled, he also expressed gratitude to the Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his concern and providing immediate assistance to the state’s effort to contain the fire.

In his speech, Rajya Sabha MP Maharaja Sanajaoba Leishemba appealed to the implementing agency to complete the construction as soon as possible to facilitate women vendors in their earnings.

Forest minister Awangbow Newmai, Education minister S Rajen and chairman of Manipur Building and Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board and Sekmai MLA H Dingo also spoke on the occasion.
