Citizens advised to be vigilant, and not take shelter under large trees and near river banks

Dimapur, June 30 (EMN): Nagaland is expected to experience heavy rains and strong winds, with the possibility of flash floods and landslides, from July 1 to the 12th, according to the state’s disaster management agency.

In a forecast issued on Tuesday, the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) informed that the second half of this period (July 1 to the 12th) is expected to get more intense.

‘During this period, thundershowers and lightning, accompanied by heavy rains is expected in the districts of Mon, Mokokchung, Longleng, Tuensang, Peren, Phek, Kiphire and Zunheboto. State capital Kohima is likely to have moderate to heavy rains from July 7 to the 10th,’ it predicted.

Dhansiri River, a tributary of Brahmaputra, may have “large flow of water” as Brahmaputra is above the danger level at many places due to prolonged spell of heavy rain in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, according to the NSDMA.

It advised the citizens to be vigilant, and not take shelter under large trees and near river banks. The NSDMA also requested all the district disaster management agencies and “other line departments” to attend to any emergencies caused by natural calamities and stay alert.
