DIMAPUR — The 9th Horsepower Challenge (HPC) organised by Nagaland Adventure Club (NAC) in collaboration with Nexa Jimmy was flagged off by Tovihoto Ayemi, Advisor of Tribal Affairs department and Election, at Agri Expo ground, Chümoukedima on Friday.

Speaking at the inaugural programme of the two-day event, Ayemi shared that autocross is becoming a leading sport across the world, including the Northeast India. Saying that it is gaining momentum in the region, he encouraged the club continue organising the event.

He express hope that the event will continue so that more sports lovers and motor enthusiasts can participate not only for the sake of winning but also take it as an opportunity to bond with others from beyond the borders.

‘This is fostering brotherhood and unity among the neighbouring states,’ he said, while encouraging the gathering to maintain discipline and dedication.

President of NAC, Burakum Ao, updated that 85 participants from across the Northeast are taking part in the racing competition, which is held for six categories: SUV, open, rookie (where only amateurs can participate), autorickshaw rally, stock, and ladies.

He shared that five women have registered to participate in the ladies category.

The total prize money for the event is INR 5 lakh.

Also speaking at the event, Advisor of NAC, Peter Rutsa, said that the club organises different types of events but HPC is exclusive and permanent.

He said that they experiment with different events based on the mood of the participants, and interact with the public to know the race they prefer.

He added that the biggest obstacle they face while organising such events is finding venues, as there is still no designated ground for motor car races.
