Dimapur, July 31 (EMN)
: Nagaland has witnessed a decline in weekly Covid-19 cases, recording 597 infections last week ending July 30, compared to 640 cases reported in the week before, but the number of deaths has increased from 18 to 24 during the same period.

One of the victims in the past week was a 9-day-old infant, informed department of Health and Family Welfare updated in its weekly bulletin.

It updated that the positivity rate in the state was 6% out of 9,457 samples tested, compared to 8% in the previous week. Kohima reported the highest weekly sample positivity rate at 13%, it added .

Despite the marginal decline in positivity rate, the department had expressed concern over spike in hospitalisation.

“There has been a marked increase in Covid-19 Hospital admissions in the week with a 60% increase from the last week. This indicates high undetected and unreported Covid-19 transmission in the community. Dimapur, Kohima and Mokokchung reported the maximum number of admissions,” it updated.

While informing that a 9-day-old infant had succumbed to Covid-19 in the past week, the Health department said “vaccination of parents, elders and teachers will reduce transmission to children along with adherence to Covid-19 personal safety measures” as vaccine is not available for children yet.
