8875 FPOs registered in India, 87 from Nagaland

DIMAPUR — A total of 8,875 farmer producer organisations (FPOs) have been registered across the country, with 87 from Nagaland as of June 30, 2024.

This information was provided by Ramnath Thakur, Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha on August 2.

The minister noted that under the central sector scheme “Formation and Promotion of 10,000 New Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs),” a total paid-up capital amounting to INR 630.3 crore is allocated.

As of June 30, 2024, a cumulative amount of INR 210.1 crore has been released to eligible FPOs as a matching equity grant under the scheme.

Furthermore, it was stated that the scheme includes support for a credit guarantee fund, under which loans amounting to INR 50.4 crore have been issued to these FPOs.

As of June 30, 2024, a total of 19,68,868 shareholder farmers were registered in FPOs formed and promoted under the 10,000 FPOs scheme. Additionally, 6,374 CEOs have been appointed to the 8,875 registered FPOs under the scheme.

Among the northeastern states, Assam leads with 427 FPO registrations, followed by Arunachal Pradesh with 150, Nagaland with 87, Manipur with 76, Tripura with 59, Meghalaya with 57, Mizoram with 49, and Sikkim with 13 FPO registrations.
