Wokha, March 26 (EMN):
A total of 568 persons were screened for the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) at Bhandari check gate in Wokha district bordering Assam and 81 suspected persons were kept under home quarantine.

This was disclosed by the deputy commissioner, Wokha, Orenthung Lotha during a press conference in his office on March 26 in the presence of the chief medical officer (CMO) and superintendent of police. The press conference was called to highlight on the activities undertaken in the district against Covid-19.

On technical aspect, the DC stated that task force which were set up on February 14 were put into action adding information were disseminated to the villages and colony councils in the district to tackle the virus.

He stated that the administration has arranged 58 isolated beds at GHSS hostel at Wokha. For public safety, the DC also informed that the district administration is planning to impose 144 CRPC in the district in order to maintain total lockdown. Under such circumstances, it would allow two people in one house to buy essential commodity. As a preventive measure, he has advised to maintain social distancing and to stay indoor.

The DC also told that the district has enough food items to last for two weeks adding all possible measures would be taken up accordingly for uninterrupted supply of food items.

Also speaking at the conference, CMO Wokha informed that the district had received 29 personal protection equipment (PPE) and one thermal scanner. On the shortage of facemask, he stated that the department and district administration have decided to produce locally with samples received from the directorate of Health and Family Welfare.

Meanwhile, SP Wokha informed that the police force is giving total cooperation to the district administration and opined that total lockdown would help in preventing the spread virus.

Mhathung Tsanglao, ADC Wokha, and Chonpenthung Ezung, SDO (C) Wokha, have warned that action would be taken against those resorting to hoarding and sale of products above MRP.
