76-year old man killed in accident at Balijan

Dimapur, Aug. 11 (EMN): A 76-year old man was killed on the spot when the bicycle he was riding was hit by a trailer truck on Sat. Aug. 11.

The incident took place at the weekly market at 62 Ghurai, Balijan in Assam at around 6:45 am, said Bhandari Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Yanbemo Humtsoe. The victim was identified as Kontsemo Odyuo, a resident of Changpang village in Wokha district.

According to the police, the victim was said to have been riding to the weekly market on a bicycle when it was hit from behind and killing him on the spot by a trailer truck belonging to the ONGC, which was said to be carrying pipes then.

The driver of the vehicle identified as Sapan Borah of Balijan fled from the scene after the incident but was apprehended from Merapani village by the Assam police, Humtsoe said.

The dead body was brought to Bikajan Police outpost, which falls under Borhola Police station in Jorhat. After an inquest, the body was taken to Jorhat hospital for post mortem. After receiving the information, the Nagaland police visited the site of the incident, the police said.

The trailer, bearing registration number AS 03 AC 9844, along with the driver was said to be in the custody of Borhola police station.

No FIR was filed by the victim’s family till the filing of this report but a Suo Moto will be registered by the Assam Police, SDPO Humtsoe informed.
