70th All India Railway Table Tennis Championship begins

DIMAPUR — The 70th All India Railway Table Tennis Championship 2024-2025 (Men and Women) organised by the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) began on Monday at the N.F. Railway Indoor Stadium, Maligaon, Guwahati, with NFR General Manager Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, as the chief guest.

Shrivastava inaugurated the 5-day sporting event by hoisting the tournament flag and addressed the gathering in presence of other senior officials of NFR and N.F. Railway Sports Association (NFRSA), said an update.

NFRSA president Sandeep Sharma welcomed all participating players and officials of the event which will conclude on August 16.

As many as 19 teams, comprising 13 mens’ teams and six womens’ teams representing various Zonal Railways of Indian Railways are participating in the championship. A total of 180 persons including players, officials, referees and Railway Sports Promotion Board Observers will converge for the event.

“National players who represented India at various International events both in men and women category will be in action in this championship tournament. Top seed players from mens ’team like Jeet Chandra, Anirban Ghosh, Akash Pal and RonitBhanja will be representing their respective zones. From womens’ team players like Sutirtha Mukherjee, Poymantee Baisya and Moumita Dutta will clash for the championship with other deserving players participating in the event,” read the update.
