70 houses damaged in Mon area

AROUND 70 houses and a school have been affected by land sinking while 10 other houses were affected by the landslide in Tanlao ward at Edith Douglas Colony, Mon, according to the GBs of the ward.
Deputy Commissioner Mon Angau I Thou along with SDO Sadar, Keyirangding Hegui, GBs and ward executives of Tanlao ward inspected the land sinking and landslide areas today.The land sinking and minor landslide started in the previous monsoon causing numerous craters in the areas, affecting the houses and class rooms of Edith Douglas School. Since then the craters in the soil are increasing day by day during the current monsoon.
Interacting with the ward leaders, the Deputy Commissioner assured to extend all possible assistance, including relief under natural calamity, to the badly affected families for after door to door verification by the DBs. She also assured to approach the government in this regard.
She also appealed to the Management Committee of Edith Douglas School to make alternative arrangements for class rooms to ensure secure learning. The ward leaders while appreciating the Deputy Commissioner and his team for their concern requested her to depute experts from Geology and Mining department to study the cause of the soil sinking.

Landslide cuts off road at Tobu
Incessant torrential rain has completely cut off the road between Mopong and Tobu town. Several culverts were damaged at various places. Due to the damage, no vehicle could ply on the road and the people of Tobu area are facing shortage of food items.
