DIMAPUR: As many as 70 election-related criminal cases were registered during the recent Nagaland Assembly election held in February this year, the result of which was declared in March.
A total of 81 persons were arrested, seven chargesheeted and investigations are ongoing in 61 cases, updated State Police Nodal officer and IG (Range), Limasunep Jamir during a meeting chaired by Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Nagaland, V Shashank Shekhar at the CEO’s office chamber on Monday.
The meeting was held not only to review the status of criminal cases registered during the recent election but also to ensure that active follow-up action continues on such cases even after the completion of the election process, said the update, adding that the Election Commission of India (ECI) wants action to act as a deterrent in future.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]It went on to say that all the districts will regularly send monthly reports on the status of action taken report of criminal cases registered during the last election, to be reviewed by the office of the Chief Electoral officer and ECI.
The review meeting was attended by several officers of CEO’s office Nagaland, including R. Khezhie, Additional CEO; Awa Lorin, Joint CEO; Sharon Longchari, Joint CEO; Alila Chang, Deputy CEO; and Toshimeren, Assistant CEO.
