[dropcap]A[/dropcap]s many as seven candidates are likely to contest from Manipur Outer Parliamentary seat in the forthcoming Lok Sabha election.
There are two Lok Sabha seats in Manipur – one for the reserved category (Outer) and the other (Inner seat) for the general category. Political parties such as the Congress party, BJP, Naga Peoples Front (NPF), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Trinamool Congress will field their respective candidate in the Outer Parliamentary constituency. A couple of independent candidates will also be in the fray, as confirmed by this news agency.
They informed Newmai News Network that they will be contesting the election as Independent candidates and both are meeting tribal leaders and tribal organisations as part of their poll campaigns.
Regarding the Congress party, of the eight applicants for the party tickets, three of them are concertedly lobbying in New Delhi with the AICC leaders. These three intending candidates have no political backing from the Congress leaders in Manipur. These three young candidates have good rapport with the Congress young turks and are hopeful of winning the heart of the Congress ‘high command.’ Regarding the NPF, the party’s ‘search committee’ has almost completed its job and in the next few days things will be clear. “Yes, we will be naming soon,” said an NPF leader regarding the party’s candidate’s name.
Meanwhile, for the BJP, Prof Gangmumei and for the Trinamool Congress it is former MP Kim Gangte while for the Aam Aadmi Party, it is speculated that All India Tribal Students Association (AITSA) chief K Zou is likely to be fielded.
