68th Republic Day celebrated across Nagaland

Jamir Adviser Urban Development on the occasion of 68th Republic Day celebration conveyed the elections to Municipal and Town Councils have been notified after a gap of more than 12 years with 13 new Town Councils thereby bringing the total number of Municipal and Town Councils in the State to 32. However with opposition from several tribal bodies and civil society organisations, Jamir appealed to all sections of the people to co-operate with the ongoing election and sink our differences and march forward for peace, progress and development. He was addressing as the chief guest at Dimapur district on Thursday January 26. The legislator also remarked the State is making good progress on all fronts and the prevailing peaceful situation has also contributed in facilitating developments. The State government he said remain firm in their commitment to continue supporting the ongoing political dialogue for achieving final settlement which alone can bring permanent peace. And thereby he called on the NSCN (K) to respect the wishes of the people and re-enter the ceasefire agreement with Government of India. The work of four laning of Dimapur to Kohima stretch of NH 29 has started and the two lane road from New Filed check post to Purana Bazar, four lane road from Purana Bazar to Patkai Bridge, two lane road from Kohima by pass check post to Lerie, inside city road has been sanctioned updated the chief guest. Highlighting the Nagaland Vision 2030 Jamir accentuated the State envisions opening up and unlocking the land locked areas along the Nagaland-Myanmar border for the benefit of Naga people. On the education front Jamir conveyed the Education department has decided to declare the year 2017 as the ‘Year of Research’ and accordingly the SCERT would give special emphasis on the research aspect. The department of Higher and Technical Education is implementing the national policy on mandatory accreditation by establishing Institutional Quality Assurance Cell in all colleges and setting up of College Quality Assessment Committee which is a working group to visit Colleges to motivate for assessment. During 2015-16 the total food grain production in the State was 6.77 lakh metric tons with productivity level of 2,096 kilograms per hectare and during 2016-17 the Department of Agriculture aims to achieve production of 7.11 lakh metric tons food grain with productivity level of 2,138 kilograms per hectare. For the department of Horticulture a project is being taken up with the Indian Council of Agricultural Research Jharnapani for the organic production of Naga King Chilli for export contained the Republic message. He also announced that for the welfare of the journalists in the State, the Department of Information and Public Relations has notified the Nagaland Journalists Welfare Scheme. On the development of Rural, Urban and Backward areas the department of Rural Development has issued 4.25 lakh job cards under MGNREGS with earmarked outlay of Rs. 518.24 crores during 2016-17 conveyed Jamir. The Republic Day message also maintained the department of Power will achieve hundred percent electrification of all villages as per 2011 census, and electrification of 81 un-electrified villages under Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY) is nearing completion. A significant livestock show by the department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services Dimapur was on display under National Livestock Mission at Dimapur on two category- poultry (Desi and Low Input Technology) and piglets. The Livestock Show was supposed to be a Mela, however due to financial constraint and technical factors the Mela was held as Show said a veterinary doctor Dr. Michael. He maintained that over-all development in the state was made possible through the contribution and active participation of every citizen and asked the people to raise above their difference so as to achieve the quest for making Nagaland a developed state in all sphere. After unfurling the National flag, the chief guest inspected the parade contingents with Meyiakum, Assistant commandant as Parade Commander and ABI S. Ravi Phom as 2nd Commander. Chuba Longkumer as chief guest. Addressing on the occasion, the chief guest highlighted the achievements made by the State Government in various fields. The Department of Municipal Affairs has notified 13 new Town Councils bringing the total number of Municipal and Town Council to 32 nos. in the State, he said. He also pointed out that the Department of Veterinary & Animal Husbandry under the National Livestock Mission aim to cover a pig population of 5 lakh and the Government of India has acknowledged the uniqueness and importance of Mithun in the state. Earlier, chief guest unfurled the National Flag and took salute from the parade contingents of 9th IR Battalion, DEF, Wildlife Protection Force Intangki, Sainik School Punglwa, NCC, Peren College and 36 Assam Rifles Pipe Band. Asst. Commandant L. Sukumo Kikon led the march past as Parade Commander. Patriotic dance, band display, exhibition of stalls, visitation of various institutions marked the day. Kipili Sangtam aschief guest. The chief guest unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute. He also inspected the parade contingents consisting of seven contingents & VG band party and delivered the Republic Day speech. Other highlights of the programme included special number by Lilongla Sangtam, folk dance by Taimetong cultural troupe and Kiphire Village Women Society of Kiphire Town. The chief guest also inaugurated the exhibition stalls. Visitation of inmates and football exhibition match other highlights of the programme. MON: In Mon Republic Day was celebrated at Local Football Ground, with Minister for Rural Development & REPA, C.L. John as chief guest. In his speech, chief guest highlighted various achievements, policies and ongoing development programmes under various agencies of the government. He informed that for the growth and development of the state ‘Nagaland vision 2030’ was released during the Hornbill festival 2016 and highlighted the road map for enhancing every type of connectivity with South East Asian countries. Briefing on Urban Local Bodies John said that the Department of Municipal Affairs has notified 13 new Town Councils, thereby increasing the total number of Municipal and Town Councils in the state to 32. However, he lamented that the provision of 33% reservation for women in Municipal and Town Council has been opposed by several tribal bodies and civil societies on the ground that it infringes Article 371 A. Therefore, he appealed to all sections of people to cooperate with the ongoing election process which is not for any individual interest but for progress and development of our towns. Earlier, chief guest unfurled the National Flag and took the salute from 8 contingents. Drill was displayed by Langsa Hill School, Lampong Sheanghah. Other highlights of the programme included flagging off of sanitation vehicles under “Swachh Bharat Mission”, presentation of awards to Thamnan ward and Tompang ward for best performance in Christmas decoration and cleanest ward under the mission “I Love my Mon Town”, demonstration on disaster management and cultural dance. Officers and club visited hospital, orphanage and district jail. Addressing the gathering, the chief guest stated that Nagaland is an equal partner in the national mission for progress and development has brought out the Nagaland Vision 2030 wherein it lays down a road map for enhancing road, rail, air and internet connectivity so that our state becomes the gateway to South East Asian nations. He also called upon NSCN (K) to respect the wishes of the people and re- enters the ceasefire agreement with the Government of India. He also maintained that under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), the Education department has successfully operationalized six Residential Hostels at Zunheboto, Dimapur, Mokokchung, Peren, Phek and Wokha. He informed that the Government of India (GOI) has acknowledged the uniqueness and importance of Mithun and is assisting the state in improving the breeding by establishing a ‘Gokul Gram’ for mithun at Rotomi village, Zunheboto under National Programme on Bovine Breeding. Earlier, the chief guest unfurled the National flag and received Rashtriya salute from 10 Contingents. Chief guest also inaugurated the stalls put up by various departments and Self Help Groups (SHGs). Male folk dance, special numbers and exhibition volleyball match were other highlights of the event. The National anthem was led by Longleng Town Students Union. The chief guest delivered the Republic Day speech and took salute from the eight parade contingents. He also inaugurated the exhibition stalls put up at the venue. Highlights of the programme included special number, demonstration of Martial Arts and folk dances. Volley ball match was played between women students and church. TOBU: The 68th Republic Day was celebrated at Tobu Hq with Advisor NBDA, Naiba Konyak as chief guest, who unfurled the National Tri colour, read out the republic day speech and took saluted from seven parade contingents. Highlights of the day included sweets distribution by the Department of Social Welfare, entertainment by Tobu Town Students’ Union, Shangmyak ward Tobu town and cultural dance by Tobu village. MELURI: Meluri sub-division observed the 68th Republic Day with Minister for School Education and SCERT, Yitachu as the chief guest. He unfurled the National flag and took salute from parade contingents. The chief guest delivered the Republic Day speech and visited stalls put up by various SHGs and Agri&Allied departments. Folk dances and special number and choreography were other highlights of 5the programme. NOKLAK: Noklak celebrated 68th Republic Day at Public ground Noklak with Minister Health & Family Welfare, P. Longon as chief guest. He unfurled the National flag, read out the Republic Day speech and took salute from six parade contingents. National Anthem was presented by GMS Thang. The chief guest inspected the stalls. To mark the occasion Red Cross society Noklak branch visited CHC Noklak and distributed food items to the patients.
