Dimapur: Model-turned actress Andrea Kevichusa, the first artiste from Nagaland to play a lead role in Bollywood, won the coveted Filmfare Award for Best Debut Female for her role in “Anek” directed by Anubhav Sinha.

The 22-year-old artiste created history for Nagaland and the Northeast region by winning the iconic Black Lady at the star-studded 68th Hyundai Filmfare Awards 2023 ceremony hosted by superstar Salman Khan and co-hosted by actors Ayushman Khurrana and Maniesh Paul.

The glittering event, which was held at Jio World Conventional Centre in Mumbai on April 27, also saw Rajkummar Rao winning the Best Actor Award in a Leading Role (Male) and Alia Bhatt took home Best Actor Award in a Leading Role (Female), while movies namely “Gangubai Kathiawadi”, “Badhaai Do” and “Brahmastra Part One: Shiva” bagged maximum awards.

Kevichusa was earlier nominated for  Filmfare Award in Best Debut Female category alongside Miss World-turned actor Manushi Chhillar for her role in “Samrat Prithviraj”, Khushali Kumar in “Dhokha: Round D Corner”, and Prajakta Koli in “Jugjugg Jeeyo”.

Expressing happiness over winning the award, which is one of the oldest and most prominent film events dedicated to the Hindi film industry, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio took to Twitter to congratulate the actress for the feat.

“Happy to know that her hard work and talent have been recognized. I wish her the best for all her future endeavours,” he wrote.

Kevichusa, who earned praises from various quarters for her performance in “Anek”, where she acted opposite Ayushmann Khurrana, earlier told Eastern Mirror that the warm reception that she received from a number of stars in Bollywood industry was gratifying.

It may be mentioned that she play a metaphorical character in the film, symbolising the region she comes from and the betrayals she goes through. “She’s a very strong-willed person who is trying to find her own footing in the country but is unable to, because she simply isn’t being presented the opportunity to,” she had earlier told this newspaper about her role.
