Shillong May 28, 2018 (PTI): About 65 per cent votes were cast till 1.30 pm in the bypoll to Ampati assembly seat in Meghalaya today, election office sources said.
The voting has been peaceful and incident free so far, Chief Electoral Officer F R Kharkongor told PTI.
He said the VVPat at Rongsakona polling station had to be changed, when technical error was detected in the voting machine.
The by-election was necessitated after Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma resigned from Ampati after winning from Songsak seat as well in the February 27 state assembly election.
In the triangular contest for the seat Miani D Shira, daughter of Sangma, is the Congress candidate, Clement G Momin is the candidate of the ruling Meghalaya Democratic Alliance and Subhankar Koch is the Independent contestant.
