60th SASA meet from today

Kohima, Jan. 26 (EMN): The much anticipated 60th Southern Angami Sports Association (SASA) annual meet featuring Naga-style wrestling, athletics and games will commence at local ground Kohima from today (Jan. 27).

The senior wrestling will be held on Thursday from 9:30 am at Khuochiezie. It will be followed by junior category (U-16) wrestling at the venue on Friday. The competition will begin with an invocation by Videkho Mekro, associate pastor of Central Christian Revival Church, D Block, Kohima.

The venue for wrestling is being managed by the Southern Angami Catholic Youth Association. During the day, badminton and table tennis will be held simultaneously at 9:30 am from the State Indoor Stadium, Kohima.

The sports meet will resume on Feb. 1, where athletic events will commence from Jakhama local ground and Kimipfüphe ground, Kigwema with Lhoubeizo Kesiyie as the special guest.

Track and field events like 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m and 1500m race, javelin and discus throw, shot put and long jump for both men and women will be held during the day.

Triple jump, high jump, 400 m, 3000 m and 4×400 m relay race for men and women as well as mixed category will be conducted on Feb. 2, with K John Mera as the patron.

On Feb. 3, football (men), volleyball and sepaktakraw for men and women will be conducted, with EAC Kevingoto Kulnu as the patron.

The closing ceremony will be on Feb. 4 at 2 pm with Vedelalie Zashümo as the guest.

An exhibition match between Southern Angami Sports Association and Southern Angami Youth Organisation will also be held before the prize distribution, followed by “SASA Night”.
