Phesama Youth Organisation and Elite Sisters’ Club emerge as champions
Kohima, Nov. 29 (EMN): Phesama Youth Organisation (PYO) clinched the champions of men’s category after beating last year runners-up Zenith Club, Kezo Town 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-16) during the final match of the 5th Open Kohima District Volleyball Tournament that concluded here at the Kohima local ground on Wednesday.
In women’s category, Elite Sisters’ Club defeated the defending champions Tiema-Khe Kidima 3-0 (26-25, 25-14, 25-15) in the final match to claim the title.
PYO walked home with INR. 35,000 along with trophy and citation, while the runners-up Zenith Club received INR, 25,000 along with trophy and citation. Losing semi-finalists in men’s category- T. Khel Knights and Tama Youth Society, Mima received INR. 5000 each.
Elite team pocketed a cash prize of INR. 25,000 along with trophy and citation while runner-up Tiema-Khe Kidima received INR. 15,000 along with trophy and citation.
Losing semifinalist in women’s category, St. Joseph’s College, Jakhama, and Wagers Club received INR. 5000 each.
Earlier, Kethosituo Sekhose, Kohima Municipal Council Administrator graced the closing ceremony as the guest of honour and gave away the prizes to the winners.
The tournament was organised by Kohima District Volleyball Association (KDVA) under the theme "Transcending through sports”. Altogether 15 men's team and 8 women's team competed in the championship.
While 10 players each for both men and women were selected to represent Kohima district at the first edition of the Nagaland Olympics which will be held from December 13 to 19 in Dimapur.
