56 militants of 3 outfits surrendered in Manipur

Fifty six militants hailing from three outfits surrendered along with a huge cache of arms and ammunition before the Government here today. The militants gave themselves up before Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh during a ‘home coming ceremony’ at the 1st Manipur Rifles banquet hall.
They include chairman of People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) and its finance secretary Chinglen, 35 from Kangleipak Communist Party-KK Nganba (KCP-KK Nganba) and 19 from KCP-Nongdrenkhomba.
The arms and ammunition deposited by KCP (KK Nganba) group include nine 9 mm pistols, four 7.65 mm pistols, five AK 47 Assault Rifles and lethod gun, M-16, Uzi gun, Beretta gun and carbine numbering one each.
Four AK 47 Assault Rifles, one lethod gun, two 9 mm pistols, seven .32 mm pistols, one M-23 rifle, one Uzi gun, four grenades and 178 ammos were deposited by KCP-Nongdrenkhomba during the ‘home coming’ ceremony.
Later, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the Manipur Government and KCP-(KK Nganba). Principal Secretary (Home) Dr J Sureshbabu represented the Government side while Ch Manglemjao alias KK Nganba represented the outfit’s side at the signing of the MoU.
Welcoming the militants, Chief Minister Ibobi said he hoped the ‘home coming’ ceremony would give a big message to other underground groups. He appealed to other armed groups to join the mainstream. He assured all possible helps to rehabilitate all the militants.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, who is also the Home Minister, said people can express their concern in a peaceful and democratic way without violence. Gaikhangam lauded these militants and wished for a peaceful Manipur.
