ring six districts, the team, which is in Dimapur, said the training is based on the curriculum of National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC). With a target of 550 for the first phase of ‘Year of Construction Workers 2016-2017,’ Dimapur district has enrolled 51 participants.
Atoho Shohe, a trainee in his early 30’s, shared that he has been in the construction work since the age of 10 years and with his 15 years experience in the industry, the training being imparted to them at the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) Women, Seithekiema, has been enlightening.
“There is a huge difference between the conventional technique which I learned through the non locals working at construction sites and the training that I have been receiving through this programme,” confided Shohe.
Similar experience was accounted by Paul Shikhu and Kidongmeren Longkumer (both fresher in the construction work).
“The techniques taught to us during the course of the training programme is advanced and standardised by giving us an idea of how we have been wasting resources all these days in the hands of unskilled construction workers,” expounded Shikhu.
Longkumer, also a fresher in the field, narrated that he wanted to pursue architect but had dropped the idea due to some valid reasons. However, having a few idea of mason work, he developed keen interest and which is why he is here today to be skilled as a construction worker.
With the training coming to a close tomorrow, the trainees wished for extension of the training programme so that they can be taught more on pertinent techniques of construction works which will be beneficial for them in future. Zynorique team, which has covered six districts, shared that they received four women participants in Mokokchung district and ten in Kiphire district. Sharing their experiences of training the women participants, the team said the womenfolk showed great enthusiasm and potentiality without any experiences, which broke the classification on the capability of women.
The team will cover four remaining districts to reach the 550 target. Similar training will be conducted in Mon district from July 17-22, Zunheboto district from July 31-August 5, Longleng district from August 21-26 and Kohima district from September 4-9. The training is being held for a period of one week for the age group between 18 to 45 years.
