5290 employment generated under PMEGP in Nagaland

Dimapur, April 4 (EMN): About 5920 employment was generated in 740 micro units set up in Nagaland through the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) in 2020-21, under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC).

As per the ministry, the number of micro units set up in the state under PMEGP in 2018-19 was 1208 with 9664 estimated employment generated, while 2019-2020 the number of micro units set up was 1109 with 8872 estimated employment generated.
According to the report, there was a drastic decline in 2020-21 with just 5920 estimated employment and 740 micro units compared to the previous two years.
As per the state Industries and Commerce department, the target of PMEGP scheme for 2021-22 was 1719 units with an estimated employment of 13752. Meanwhile, for the Nagaland Khadi and Village Industries Board (NKVIB), the targeted number of units was 851 with an estimated employment of 6808, and for KVIC the targeted number of units was 180 with an estimated employment of 1440.
The highest number of units and employment was in Dimapur district followed by Kohima district. In Kohima 25 units were reserved for other tribes and being the state capital, 10% of the target allocation of Kohima district was reserved for other tribes predominantly settled in Kohima.
