51st Chakhroma Sports meet kicks off

Dimapur, Oct. 23 (EMN): The 51st Chakhroma Sports Meet organised by Chakhroma Youth Organisation (CYO) kicked off on Saturday at Medziphema local ground.

The 8-day sports meet was inaugurated by Medo Yhokha, Advisor to Chief Minister and Technical Education and Election, govt. of Nagaland.

Out of the 42 villages affiliated under CYO, 27 villages are participating in men’s football, 16 villages in men’s volleyball and 15 villages are participating in women’s volleyball.

Earlier during a press conference, it was informed that the cash prize for the winner of men’s football is INR 50000 and INR 30000 for the runners up. There will also be individual prizes — player of the tournament, best goalkeeper, best defender and top scorer.

For volleyball tournament (both men and women), the winner will receive a cash prize of INR 20,000 and INR 15,000 for runners up. Individual prize for the best player will be given.

Speaking at the function, Yhokha encouraged the players to have perseverance as sportspersons. He said that Nagaland has the highest percentage of government services but it is projected as one of the lowest revenue generation state, and asserted that conventional mindset in employment is the need of the hour.

He stated that the government can facilitate young people in government policies and programmes and the visionary leaders must take the initiative. ‘Let us work, strive and struggle to create our own history so that others can study about us’, he added.

Vichütuolie Mere, President of Chakhro People’s Organisation and Lhoubeizo Kesiyie, President of Angami Sports Association also extended their greetings.

In the opening match of the tournament played between Tsiepama Youth Organisation (TYO) and Medziphema Village Youth Organisation (MVYO), TYO won with a solitary goal scored by Keneizeto (15). In an exhibition match played between Youth Organisation ranges United and ASA/AYO, the later won 4-3.
