5 penalised for defying COTPA Act in Wokha

Dimapur, July 11 (EMN): Five persons were penalised after a joint team including COTPA flying squad led by O/C Wokha Police Station, representatives from National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP), DBs, personnel from Wokha Police Station and Women Police Station conducted a raid in and around schools premises to check the sale of tobacco products July 8.

The team after conducting the raid penalised five defaulters for non-compliance with the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act and the tobacco products were also seized, a DIPR report stated. The seized tobacco products were destroyed the same day in presence of all the team members at the Wokha Police Station premises.

As per COTPA Act, selling of any kind of tobacco products within 100 meters radius within the school area is restricted.
