Kohima Oct. 15( EMN): The 4th Battalion NAP celebrated its golden jubilee on 15th October 2018 at Durbar Hall, Thizama with T.John Longkumer, IPS DGP Nagaland as the special guest.
Speaking at the jubilee celebration, T John Longkumer, while congratulating the men of 4th NAP, said that the battalion were the forerunners in bringing peace in the state. He also said that the battalion were not only the pioneers in border conflicts but also in tackling insurgency issues as well.
Delving into the rich history of the battalion, he said the unit was privileged to have been commanded by many former director generals and officers in the state. He paid tribute to the lost men and officers of the battalion who laid down their lives during the Merapani conflict in the line of duty for the State.
He also encouraged the men of the battalion to be God fearing and to be humble in their duty by re-affirming on their solemn duty and motto of Service, Security and Sacrifice to humanity.
Commandant of 4th NAP, Teisovise Metha, while giving the welcome address, said the 4th Battalion NAP was first established in 1968 with its headquarters in Longnak under Mokokchung district and was in-charge of maintaining law and order in the Assam Border areas.
He said the unit played a major role in containing the situation during the Merapani conflict with the Assam police in the eighties.
The headquarters of the 4th Battalion NAP was shifted to its current location at Thizama in 1972 wherein their main duty was to contain the insurgency problem.
The unit also served in UP and Delhi.
Earlier at the programme, students of regimental school, 4th battalion, NAP Thizama presented the welcome song. A traditional song was also presented by Keviphilie Theunüo ABI . The program concluded with a special number by the DGP band . Vote of thanks was delivered by T Denyong Konyak, NPS Dy. Commandant. The program was chaired by Vesupra Kezo, NPS Dy. Commandant, 2i/c.
A monolith commemorating the golden jubilee was also unveiled by the DGP in the presence of other officers and dignitaries with Nizopre Ritse, pastor, unit church, offering the dedicatory prayer.
