46 Manipur craftsmen honoured with awards

Forty-six outstanding craftspersons of Manipurwere honoured with various forms of awards including 10 state awards,13 merit awards and 23 inspiration awards during a simple function at the Iboyaima Sumang Leela Shanglen, Palace Compound Imphal on Thursday. Besides state Commerce and Industries department also distributed a subsidy each of Rs 20,000 to around 100 artisans for the year 2013-14.The awards were given under the scheme of Modernisation of Handicrafts and assistance in the country.Minister, Commerce & Industries, sericulture and Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Gobindas Konthoujam was the chief guest while Director B John Tlangtinkhuma of State Commerce and Industries and Additional Director  Commerce and Industries V Taulthang were the President and Guest of Honour of the award ceremony function respectively.
Housewife thrown out after hepatitis infection:A Manipuri housewife has been allegedly thrown out from her husband’s house after she was found infected with hepatitis B. The housewife has been identified as one Sarangthem Ningol Yumkhaibam Ongbi Anitabi (26) wife of Rojen of Kodompokpi Lamkhai in Imphal West district.
Housewife Anitabi, speaking to media persons during a press conference in Manipur Press Club in Imphal, today alleged that she was thrown out by her husband and in-laws after she was found infected with hepatitis B on February 25.
Anitabi marries with Rojen on November 13 last year and is now pregnant for 4 months. Narrating how her husband’s family takes up steps against her, she informed that she was found infected with hepatitis B when she went to doctor for routine check ups. The doctor attending her even advised them that nothing unwanted will happen as it will be cured in due course of time. However, the in-laws asked her to go an abortion. But the housewife Anitabi refuses and subsequently she was thrown out of the house, she alleged.
Manipur education department has 14631 teachers: Manipur education (schools) department has 14,631 teachers according to the CPIS Database of the department. This was disclosed by state education minister M Okendra while replying to a question raised by Andro assembly constituency MLA Thounaojam Shyamkumar during the ongoing session of the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly today.Minister further said that the total number of 1502 High schools, Primary Schools and Junior High Schools in the state. He also assured that his department is trying to fill up the vacant posts of teachers under promotion quota through DPC. The total number of students enrolled in the state government schools in 2013 is 1,44,673. The number of students admitted in the government schools for the ongoing academic session is not known till now as the admission process is still on, minister added.
