40th edition of Nagaland Police Duty-cum-Sports Meet kicks off

DIMAPUR — The 40th edition of the Nagaland Police Duty-cum-Sports Meet 2022 was officially kicked off by Governor of Nagaland, La. Ganesan at the Nagaland Armed Police Training Centre (NAPTC) stadium, Chümoukedima, on Thursday.

This year’s edition, a total of 2029 officers representing 34 different units of Nagaland Police, will be participating in four games – football, volleyball, boxing and badminton – and eight duty items, namely shooting, drill, BPET, motor transport, scientific aid to investigation, weapon handling, bugle and wireless.

The teams will be competing for 154 medals, 12 trophies and the overall champions’ trophy.

Addressing the opening ceremony as special guest, Ganesan said that the meet is not just an event but a celebration of dedication, skill and the unyielding spirit of the police force.

He exhorted the participants by saying that, be it in athletics or duty competitions, the values of integrity, teamwork and resilience should always come to the fore.

The governor also said that the event will vividly showcase the physical prowess, temperament as well as the sporting spirit of the police personnel, qualities essential in fulfilling their duties to maintain peace and justice.

He added that the participation of each police personnel reflects a significant stride towards not only professional excellence but personal growth, thus maintaining the equilibrium that is crucial for holistic development and well-being.

Ganesan also acknowledged and thanked the families and loved ones of police personnel saying that their unwavering support and dedication to policemen and policewomen are invaluable.

Delivering the welcome address, Director General of Police, Nagaland, Rupin Sharma said that the journey of the Nagaland Police Meet began in 1967, and the glorious sporting tradition continues till today.

Sharma said that during such meets, the energy levels runs high and the spirit of competition pervades everywhere, but at the same time, feelings of camaraderie, bonds of friendship and healthy sportsmanship are also developed.

The police chief went on to state that the games and duty meet serves to identify talented sportspersons to represent the department and the state in regional and national events, and also provides them an excellent platform to represent the nation in international events.

He mentioned that many sportspersons from the Police department have represented the nation at international events in various disciplines.

He also expressed gratitude to the chief minister for giving financial assistance for the sports meet.

On the occasion, the governor also released the sports meet souvenir.
