Kohima, April 30 (EMN): Association of Kohima Municipal Wards Panchayat (AKMWP) said on Friday that citizens in the state capital are beginning to realise the importance of wearing face masks as Covid-19 cases continue to surge.
It informed that as many as 402 persons were penalised for not wearing mask on the first day the mandatory use of face coverings was imposed to curb the spread of the virus.
However, no defaulters were reported in four wards, it was informed.
The AKMWP, which has been authorised by the deputy commissioner and chairman of Kohima District Task Force for Covid-19 to ensure implementation of Covid-appropriate behaviour, notified on April 27 that wearing of face mask in public places would be mandatory within 19 wards of Kohima municipality with effect from Friday.
Defaulters are penalised with a fine of INR 100.
