Nagaland’s disability panel flags concerns over 4% job reservation, recruitment rosters and disability certificate verification following aspirants’ complaints
DIMAPUR — Complaints from persons with disabilities (PwDs) over the way their 4% reservation in government jobs is reflected in recruitment rosters have prompted the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities (SCPD) to seek greater clarity from the state’s recruiting agencies.
A press release on Monday informed that State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities Tongpang L Jamir and officials of the commission held separate meetings with NPSC Secretary Nungsangmenla Imchen and NSSB Secretary Lanusenla Longkumer to discuss the implementation of the reservation and roster system.
The meetings were preceded by verbal and written complaints from PwD aspirants regarding how reserved vacancies are identified and reflected in recruitment rosters.
The SCPD stressed that the rosters should clearly indicate vacancies reserved for PwDs, allowing eligible candidates to avail themselves of the reservation provided under the applicable provisions.

The NPSC and NSSB informed the commission that recruitment rosters are prepared and furnished by the respective government departments. The meetings also discussed the need for departments to ensure that the rosters accurately reflect the reserved vacancies.
The verification of disability certificates was another issue taken up during the meetings. While acknowledging the need to verify certificates submitted by candidates, the SCPD stressed that the process should be uniform and transparent and should not create unnecessary hurdles for genuine candidates.
The commission also called for closer coordination among government departments, the NPSC, NSSB and the SCPD to address grievances related to reservation and improve its implementation.
It informed that PwDs facing difficulties with reservation, roster implementation or recruitment may submit complaints to the office of the SCPD, preferably in writing and along with supporting documents.
