3rd North East Games: Sikkim’s Puran Rai, Anjali Subba win cross-country golds

KOHIMA — The athletic events of the 3rd North East Games concluded on Saturday at IG Stadium in Kohima with cross-country races for men’s and women’s categories, along with team events.

In the men’s category, Puran Rai from Sikkim secured the gold medal with an impressive performance, finishing in 32 minutes and 44.6 seconds.

Damber Kumar Basnet of Sikkim secured the silver medal with a time of 32 minutes and 47.9 seconds, while Kh Romajit Singh from Manipur bagged the bronze, finishing in 32 minutes and 50.7 seconds.

In the women’s category, Anjali Subba of Sikkim clinched the gold medal, finishing in 39 minutes and 48.0 seconds. Tsuchoi T from Nagaland secured the silver medal with a time of 39 minutes and 49.8 seconds, while Niansai T, also from Nagaland, claimed the bronze, finishing in 42 minutes and 49.8 seconds.

Manipur, consisting of Kh Romajit Singh, Konthoujam Somorjit Singh, Khaidem Joychandra Singh, and Thotngacheiran Hunphun Luiyi, won the gold in the men’s team event.

The silver was won by the Nagaland team, which included Wede T Mero, N Nokchin Chang, Shianjit T Khiamniungang, and Cuvuto Medeo. The Meghalayan team, which included Kresstarjune Pathaw, Knerlang Phawa, Iohborlang Nongspung, and Dabit Dkhar, took home the bronze.

Nagaland won the women’s team event with Tsuchoi T, Niansai T, Songmo P, and Peiheiteilie Esalung. Meghalaya won silver with Bandasharai Marwell, Ibanraikor Lyngkhoi, Claire Jones Jala Kharbhih, and Barisha Khymdeit, while Sikkim won bronze with Anjula Subba, Sabina Rai, Phurba Tamang, and Binita Kami.
