DIMAPUR — As many as 396 dengue cases have been confirmed through Elisa test at District Hospital Dimapur (DHD) out of 2607 samples tested between July and September 15 this year.

District Vector Borne Disease Consultant, Dimapur, Peter Sangtam, informed that out of the 396 dengue-positive cases reported at the district hospital, 121 were imported cases from other districts of Nagaland and Assam.

He said that the National Centre for Vector-Borne Disease Control (NCVBDC) of Dimapur District has inspected more than 2500 houses, covering over 80 localities, under the door-to-door awareness campaign in Dimapur Sadar, Chümoukedima, and Medziphema since September 4 amid rising cases of dengue fever.

Fogging has been carried out since June and it has been done in over 60 localities so far, he said, adding that they had also conducted dengue awareness campaigns at educational institutions, both government and private schools, on September 21 and 22 in collaboration with the Christian Institute Of Health Sciences and Research (CIHSR).

The Dimapur NCVBDC team is scheduled to visit several blocks including Niuland, Kuhoboto and Dhansiripar this week for dengue awareness campaign.

Sangtam also advised the people to exercise caution while going outdoors, as dengue virus carrier — aedes mosquitoes — tend to bite during the day time, particularly around dawn and dusk.

135 tested positive in Mon

The Chief Medical Office, Mon, updated a total of 135 patients have been tested positive for dengue virus through rapid diagnostic test (RDT), out of which 66 of them have been admitted to District Hospital Mon as on Monday, September 25.

It may be mentioned that the government of Nagaland had deployed more doctors and other healthcare workers in Mon district to tackle the alarming rise in dengue cases.

Meanwhile, health officials had earlier advised the people to prevent the accumulation of stagnant water within and around homes, including in items like tires and flower pot bases; to unclog drains and cover water containers to prevent mosquito breeding.
