37th National Games: Manipur among top 5 states in the medal tally

IMPHAL — Manipur became the only state from Northeast India to place among the top five states in the medal tally of the 37th National Games hosted by Goa, with 81 medals (30 gold, 22 silver, and 29 bronze).

On Wednesday, Manipur added two more medals, one gold in Judo (mixed team) and one silver in Men’s Football, to finish fifth in the medal tally of the ongoing event, trailing only Maharashtra, Services, Haryana, and Madhya Pradesh.

Maharashtra won 212 medals in total, including 73 gold, 65 silver, and 74 bronze.

Manipur’s judo mixed team, which won gold on Wednesday, consist of (men) L Jagadish,Th Ningthemba, H Birkamal, and (women) H Sobhashini, T Inunganbi, and L Roshini.

Manipur’s men’s football team lost 1-3 to Services in the final match, earning silver. The state’s women’s football team had already lost to Odisha in a tie-break (3-5) in their final match on November 5.

The state won the most medals in Wushu (18 medals, including 9 gold, 7 silver, and 2 bronze), followed by Judo (9 medals, including 5 gold, 2 silver, and 2 bronze).

Assam has so far won 52 medals, including 14 gold, 16 silver, and 22 bronze (ranking 11th), while Arunachal Pradesh has won 13 medals, including 6 gold, 2 silver, and 5 bronze (ranking 20th).

Mizoram won 5 medals, including 2 gold and 3 silver (ranking 27th), while Nagaland won 8 medals, including 1 gold, 3 silver, and 4 bronze (ranking 28th).

Tripura won one silver medal and finished 32nd in the medal count.
