Kohima, May 9 (EMN): The state’s department of School Education consumes the highest amount of money for salaries besides the Home department, however, the result produced by schools under the department in HSLC examinations continue to remain stagnant with the pass percentage below 50%.
According to the Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE), the HSLC 2017 result which was declared on Monday indicates that with a qualified percentage of 42.60 by government schools this year, the performance is considered to be the best since 2012. But this figure certainly does not cover up for the 30 government schools that had produced zero pass percentage as the recently declared result reveals. In 2012, 17 GHS had nil results while in 2013 and 2014, there were 26 and the number increased to 38 in 2015, and last year it came down to 30. This year too, that consistency appears to have been maintained. Mention may be made here that just two days ago, the Principal Secretary to the government, FP Solo had, in an official notification stated that Government High Schools (GHS) with nil results for three consecutive years would be downgraded. Therefore, some of the schools are expected to be coming under fire.
In the private school section, two institutions- Hills Night High School Mokokchung and Public School Tohoi village- had zero pass percentage.
As per NBSE report, government schools had 4296 students enrolled to sit for the HSLC examination 2017, out of which, only 1830 qualified. In contrast, private schools soared with 86.74 qualified percentage with 12727 students clearing the examination out of 14673 students. Besides those, 1197 repeaters passed out from among 3477 enrolled, bringing the grand total of qualified students to 15754 out of 22446 who sat for the examination this year.
It was reported that the examination for four students were cancelled due to malpractice (exchange of answer scripts) and one student was expelled for copying during exam.
