DIMAPUR — More than 30 families in Kiphire district were affected, as heavy rainfall and storm damaged several houses on Tuesday.

The in-charge of Kiphire District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), B Patrick Golmei, informed that Zaonger village under Pungro division was affected the most, with about 20 houses being damaged, while about 5-6 houses along with utility poles were destroyed in Pungro town.

He also said that the affected families are taking shelter at the houses of their relatives and fellow villagers.

In Kiphire town, two families were evacuated after their houses were damaged by the inclement weather. One of the families had to be evacuated as the retaining wall of their house was on the verge of collapsing, he said.

The windstorm also damaged a granary in Pungren village.

Meanwhile, Golmei said that the affected families from Kiphire town have been provided with relief aids but other villagers are yet to furnish the ground report and name list of the affected families to the authority.

He added that relief aids would be given to the rest of the affected families as soon as they receive the name list.
