3 more Agro-colleges for Nagaland in the pipeline

KOHIMA, AUGUST 9 : Apart from the College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, Jalukie, Nagaland is likely to have three more colleges very soon. The three colleges including College of Horticulture, College of Forestry and College of Fishery may be granted to Nagaland during the next financial year– the 13th Five Year Plan. This was announced by the Chief Minister TR Zeliang today while interacting with media persons on the sidelines of the award ceremony organized by Department of Youth Resources & Sports at IG Stadium, Kohima. The Chief Minister informed that the Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmer’s Welfare Radha Mohan Singh had given assurance to include the three colleges for the State of Nagaland during the 13th Five Year Plan. Mention may be made that Naga Hoho and representatives from Nagaland University had submitted representations to the union minister for setting up a Central Agriculture University in Nagaland. However, it was reported that the union minister explained to the government on the need to establish three colleges (Horti, Forestry and Fishery) in the State before setting up the Central Agricultural Unviersity in Nagaland. On Mithun project in the State, the Chief Minister said, the union minister had assured to provide an amount of Rs. 2 crore 50 lakh to the State and further to continue funding even in the future. On the four-lane highway, the Chief Minister informed that the road cutting will begin by this year-end. Stating that the ECI and Gayatri and Maytas have won the bid, he informed that work will commence once the work order is being issued. To this, he also added that the work order is likely to be issued by next week. The Chief Minister expressed the hope that the work would be able to commence in two/three months time, informing that the delay is due to the rainy season. The Lok Sabha has today passed the amendment of CAU Act, 1992 to include the state of Nagaland under the jurisdiction of the Central Agricultural University, Imphal.
