2nd round IPPI successful across State

Members of Leo Club Dimapur administering polio drops to children during the second round IPPI programme at Plaza Point in Dimapur.[/caption] DIMAPUR: Department of Health and Family Welfare conducted second round IPPI on April 2 wherein Dr. K Vikato Kinimi, Chief Medical Officer, launched the Polio Sunday by administering the first two drops of polio. He attributed the success of Polio Sunday not only to the hard work of the health workers but also due to the co-operation and active participation of the allied departments such as the administration, Social Welfare Department, Assam Rifles, Para militaries, all the community leaders, NGOs, and volunteers who have been tirelessly contributing and supporting the Medical Department over the years. The brief launching function was attended by officials and staff under CMO office and staff under Medical Superintendent, District Hospital Dimapur. KOHIMA: In Kohima CMO Dr. Avino Metha administered the first polio during the second IPPI programme. In a brief function, she stated that IPPI has been a regular activity with a goal to eradicate polio in the country. The country would be free from Polio with collective support from the citizen, she said. Kohima district with a population of 270063, a target of 37808 children of five years and below are to avail polio drops. Two (2) mobile polio teams on IPPI would be visiting four (4) transit points especially bus stations and taxi stands in the district for the next two days. The launching programme was held at Urban Sub-Centre of Chief Medical Officer. After invocation by Mrs S Alemla, Nursing sister in-charge, the first two drops polio was administered by Dr. T Pangjung Sangtam, CMO, in the presence of Dr. Temsu Longchar, DPO,( RCH & UIP) and staffs. The department has mobilised 1,250 vaccinators, 46 supervisors in all the eight blocks of the district to cover over 27,552 estimated children below 5 years. A total of 267 polio booths and 534 house to house teams will cover the district. CMO conveyed gratitude to all the allied departments and public for their co-operation. LCD: Leo Club of Dimapur (LCD) assisted the health department by administering polio drops to children during the second phase of Intensive Pulse Polio Immunization at Plaza Point.
