2nd Manipur Olympic Games 2022 from today

Bishnupur District Olympic Association organised a torch rally from Laukoipat to Mini Secretariat complex in the district as part of the pre-opening event for the Manipur Olympics on Thursday.

Imphal, Aug. 25 (EMN): The Manipur Olympic Association (MOA)is all set to organise the 2nd Manipur Olympic Games 2022 from August 26 to the 30th  involving 34 sports disciplines at 16 venues in Imphal.

Manipur Governor La Ganesan and Chief Minister N Biren Singh will attend the opening ceremony of the Games at the Mapal Kangjeibung, world’s oldest living pologround in Imphal on Friday.

The Manipur Sports minister Govindas Konthoujam,President Dr. Thokchom Radheshyam of Manipur Olympic Association(MOA),MLAs Nishikant Sapam and Th Arunkumar, both vice chairman of organising committee will also attend tomorrow’s opening function.

Meanwhil,  Bishnupur District Olympic Association today organised a torch rally from Laukoipat to Mini Secretariat complex in the district as a part of the pre-opening event for the upcoming State Olympic Games.

“The main objective this state level sports meet is to create a better platform for our sportspersons for their timely training and practice in connection with upcoming 2nd North East Olympic Games (Meghalaya) and 36the National Games 2022(Gujarat),” MOA President Dr. Radheshyam said.

“Its been quite a long time for our sportspersons to have an opportunity to attend proper training session due to COVID pandemic,” he added.

Around 6000 sports persons representing all the 16 districts including those from every nook and corner of the state will participate in the Games, he said.

The National Games  is scheduled to be held from September 27 to October 10 this year while the NE Olympic Games from October 30 to November 6 this year.

On Tuesday, the mascot of the Games 2022(Nong-in or Hume’s barred back pheasant, state bird) was also released by N Biren Singh while reviewing the arrangement for the Games.
