Imphal West district tops medal tally

Imphal,Aug. 30 (EMN): With 269 medals including 103 gold and 96 silver medals, Imphal West district emerged as the overall team champion of the second edition of the Manipur Olympic Games 2022 with a colourful closing function at the historic Mapal Kangjeibung, world’s oldest living pologround in Imphal.

Manipur Youth Affairs Sports minister Govindas Konthoujam and Dr. Th Radheshyam Singh, president of Manipur Olympic Association (MOA) along with Health minister Dr. S Ranjan, Social Welfare minister H Dingo and MLA M Rameshwar were present during the closing function.

The prize distribution was also held during the day’s closing function which was held right after releasing a commemorative souvenir by the Sports minister and presentation of a brief report on the games by MOA secretary general Sunil Elangbam.

Imphal East district with 272 medals, including 99 gold and 84 silver medals, secured the second position while Bishunupur district won third position with 136 medals including 65 gold and 31 silver medals.

Among the hill districts, Senapati district topped the medal tally with six gold,four silver and 10 bronze medals while Ukhrul occupied second position with one gold, four silver and 14 bronze medals.

Noney, Pherzawl and Kamjong failed to secure a single medal during the five-day Manipur Olympic Games 2022, which were held across 16 competition venues across the state since August 26.
