2nd Inter-Departmental tourney held

The 2nd Inter Departmental Tournament 2013 organized by the Officers’ Club of Mon was kicked off on 22nd November by the Deputy Commissioner & President of the Officers’ Club, Mon, Angau I. Thou, IAS at the Officers’ Club, Mon. Altogether 48 Government departments are participating in the competition in Badminton (Double, Mixed, Single for both men & women) and Carom (Double for only men), besides open category for others in Badminton.
While declaring the tournament open the Deputy Commissioner spoke on the brief account of the Officers’ Club. She said the Officers’ Club was revived in the year 2008 taking into account the need for a common platform to further the interests of the Government Officers stationed in Mon, the need to interact and share ideas and opinions for better governance and contribute towards the common good of the society and the district.
She said the club is one platform where the officers get to mingle and interact with one another, thereby promoting a sense of oneness and belonging, leading to bonds of friendship, fellowship, coordination and mutual understanding.
This bond has greatly reduced situations of awkwardness and embarrassments amongst the many Government Departments and agencies thereby improving the general relationship and working challenges, fostering and above all rendering one’s service faithfully with utmost devotion to duty, she added.
She thanked the Deputy Commandant (VG), Mon, Chingshom Konyak for constructing the balcony at the officers club. She also thanked the Executive members and the organizing committee of the club for maintaining and organizing the tournament.
The Deputy Commissioner also advised the participating team to play the game with true sportsmanship and full team spirit. In the opening match of the tournament, the Administration defeated the Excise Department.
Earlier, invocation was proposed by Rev. Honlong Konyak, Principal, Mon Theological College while Zhothose Angami, ADC (Planning), Mon lead the oath taking hour. The programme was chaired by Chumei Yanlem, SDO (Soil), Aboi.
The closing ceremony of the tournament will be held on 25th of Nov. at the officers’ Club, Mon at 03.00 p.m. The Minister for Tourism, Art & Culture and Elections, E.E. Pangteang Konyak will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest, while N. Thongwang Konyak MLA & Chairman NKVIB & DPDB, Mon will grace the function as Guest of Honour.
The highlights of the closing ceremony would be exhibition match between Legislators Vs Officers and the final match.
